Our environment will change as an adaptation measure to recent events. Both social dynamics and physical elements will transform as a result, seeking social wellbeing. Transportation systems have great importance and the suggestions made by Aviointeriors SpA group can illustrate the ways in which we will fly in the near future.
Aviointeriors SpA is an Italian design group which has dedicated to airplane interiors for 47 years. Seats are an important aspect of user experience in air transportation, so the work and innovation of Aviointeriors has constituted a breakthrough reference for the sector. The current situation is a key moment for transportation design, since it is one of the most delicate dynamics when it comes to contagion. The company, aware of this milestone, has offered two proposals that increase security when flying and maintaining social distancing.
“Passengers’ wellbeing is our main purpose. This is the reason why we must continue with our activities, in order to guarantee a future that protects and offers safety to all of those who need to travel (…). With this purpose in mind, we have studied new solutions that consider social distancing between passengers sitting in the same economy class row, where density is greater, but with features that can be applied to areas with less density, like first and executive classes”. – Aviointeriors SpA.
The proposals show two seat arrangements, without wasting the limited space within the cabin. Interaction between passengers is reduced by including a barrier in seat rows, allowing to isolate each individual place. Each design considers not only sanitary measures, but also comfort and privacy during flights.
“Janus” Seat
The name of this design comes from the Greek deity Jano, two-face god, given that the middle seat is facing the opposite way. The scheme offers little contact between passengers sitting in the same row and the space and exit way remain the same. Another preventive measure offered by this design is a shield that protects passengers on three sides, preventing spread coming from adjacent seats.
Glassafe
This is a kit that can be installed into preexisting seats in order to increase safety in seats arranged in the same row. The shape of the product encapsulates passengers inside a see-through structure, minimizing contact. The product adapts to the regular accessories and operation of a seat, like leaning back and service trays.
