The Architecture and Design Film Festival is back in Downtown Los Angeles from March 13th through the 17th. The festival gathers the three arts, celebrating the creativity in each one separately, yet in one place.
The showing offers a program comprising 24 movies created to highlight the spirit of design and architecture in the most imaginative way through documentaries, events, and round tables. It was created with the purpose of entertaining, educating, and inspiring enthusiasts on the matter.
The venues of the fair are: New York, Los Angeles, Washington DC, Las Vegas, New Orleans, Athens, and Vancouver. Each space has a particular style and theme, but always supporting the topic.
Below we highlight two movies that will be screened during the event. The first one by a Mexican director, Klearjos Eduardo Papanicolaou, and the second one is by Carlos Saura, internationally renowned Spanish director.
The Disappearance of Robin Hood
This documentary was directed by Klearjos Eduardo Papanicolaou (born in Mexico City in a Mexican/Greek family) and tells the story of London in the 70’s decade and its massive expansion, homelessness, and the construction of the urban residential Robin Hood Gardens. Klearjos started filming the piece one year after its demolition began, illustrating the concepts and features of the housing complex, its community, and the need to shelter the working class.
Renzo Piano: The Architect of Light
Carlos Saura (Spanish director, his career places him as one of the most important in the industry, being as relevant as Almodóvar) captures the style of one of the world’s most famous architects, Renzo Piano. The story turns into a spotlight for Piano’s creativity, thanks to the fact that it accompanies him while he designs Centro Botín, in Santander, Spain.
